Behold or Experience the Cross?
We know the principle: “By beholding we are changed” and in the Scriptures we are compelled to behold specifically Jesus in His suffering:
Hebrews 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Actually, Paul is inviting us to join him in experiencing the sufferings of Christ for a good reason:
Colossians 1:24 Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is lacking of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for His body’s sake, which is the church.Many people can’t see by faith JESUS but they do see us! If they see us suffer for JESUS’ sake they will be impressed, hopefully changed into same likeness and be saved. For this reason in this category we want to keep adding stories outside of the Scriptures, which are bringing the cross alive through our own lives or the lives of those who accepted the cross and could make a lasting impact on others.
